ITS Deployment Analysis System
Benefits and Costs of ITS Investments
The ITS Deployment Analysis System (IDAS) enables agencies to systematically evaluate the impacts, benefits, and costs for more than 60 types of ITS investments, helping to define and justify ITS programs.
Originally developed for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Cambridge Systematics has used IDAS to improve ITS deployments in Cincinnati, Kansas City, Lansing, and Hampton Roads. See the case studies for more information.
Key benefits of IDAS:
- Screens and prioritizes ITS technologies and geographic coverage to identify the most beneficial, cost-effective, and economically feasible alternatives.
- Estimates impacts on key variables such as potential traveler responses, effects on recurring and non-recurring congestion, safety, energy consumption, noise, vehicle operating costs, and emissions.
- Evaluates life-cycle costs and benefits, based on a library of real-world benefit and impact findings from actual ITS deployments.
- Quantifies the implications of changes in project phasing or geographic scope.
