Prototype Software for an Environmental Information Management and Decision Support System

The results of National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 25-23(2) is a final report and user's guide for a prototype environmental information management software (EIMS) developed to help support environmental management for transportation and planning agencies. This software is designed to support agencies in environmental decision-making throughout the transportation process, from long-range planning through project development, construction, operations, and maintenance. The EIMS is intended to serve as one component of an agency's broader environmental management system (EMS).

Using Crash Data to Drive Research and Technology Investments to Improve Motor Carrier Safety

This paper discusses the Driver, Vehicle, and Roadside Strategies for 2010 (DVRS for 2010) methodology and provides an overview of the key findings. The paper shows how some of the program’s components are being mainstreamed into research and technology initiatives across the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The DVRS for 2010 is among the first programs within FMCSA to explicitly link its funding decisions to the Agency’s performance measures and expected safety benefit. more

Review of Data Integration Practices and their Applications to Transportation Asset Management

This report contains a review and synthesis of data integration practices among transportation agencies at the state and local levels. It provides a broad picture of the state-of-the practice and a compelling basis for detailed case studies. The FHWA Office of Asset Management has made data integration a priority for its research, development, and deployment programs. The Office has been delivering an array of products and materials to inform transportation agencies about the strategies and benefits of data integration, and providing technical support to help those agencies with their data integration initiatives particularly in overcoming the impediments. more
