Iris N. Ortiz, a Senior Associate in our Cambridge office, recently was chosen along with 13 other women to be part of the WTS Leadership Training Program, which will be held January 24-27, 2010.  The program is geared towards women with promise for higher levels of responsibility and leadership.  This program is an opportunity for WTS to contribute to the professional development of a select group of mid-career professionals who have demonstrated the interest and potential to enhance their skills and advance within the industry. The program provides personal interaction with leading industry professionals who challenge the analytical and creative skills of participants as they tackle case studies and exercises dealing with complex issues of people, policy, and politics.

In 2008, Ms. Ortiz was awarded the Claire Barrett Member of the Year Award for her dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to the Boston chapter.  Ms. Ortiz is an active WTS-Boston member and leader, serving as co-chair of the Professional Development Committee and former co-chair of the Mentoring Committee.  She recently was nominated to the WTS Boston Board of Directors for 2010-2011 as Director-at-Large.  Well-organized, passionate about WTS, and always ready to volunteer, Ms. Ortiz has been a role model for young members and an inspiration for others to join the organization.

Ms. Ortiz has extensive experience in transportation financial planning. At the national level, she has evaluated and forecasted existing and potential funding sources for various clients, including the Hudson Institute, the National Chamber Foundation, AASHTO, and the FHWA. She has worked on several Long-Range Transportation Plans, and has been involved in various transportation finance studies for the states of Alaska, New Mexico, Texas and Washington. In Massachusetts, Ms. Ortiz was involved in the release of the Phase I report of the Transportation Finance Commission, and she has worked with the MBTA on the Silver Line Phase III project.
