IDAS
ITS Deployment Analysis System

Cambridge Systematics developed the ITS Deployment Analysis System (IDAS) for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to help state, regional, and local agencies easily and consistently assess ITS deployments. With IDAS, you can systematically evaluate the impacts, benefits, and costs for more than 60 types of ITS investments deployed in isolation or in any combination.

Many of our clients have found IDAS especially useful in integrating ITS into their ongoing transportation planning process. And, if you are familiar with the travel demand forecasting process and ITS planning, you’ll find IDAS easy to use. We offer both training and a range of consulting services to help your agency leverage IDAS.

Who Needs IDAS?

You do… if you are part of a state, regional, or local agency or metropolitan planning organization (MPO) that participates in transportation improvement decisions, and you want to ensure the best ITS deployments for your area.

Key Benefits of IDAS

IDAS has been applied to improve ITS deployments in Cincinnati, OH; Kansas City, MO; Lansing, MI; and Hampton Roads, VA (click map for larger version). Read case studies of these projects. more

  • Produces estimates of the benefits and costs of potential ITS deployments
  • Screens and prioritizes among ITS technologies and their geographic coverage to identify the most beneficial, cost-effective, and economically feasible alternatives
  • Enables smart design and investment decisions by estimating impacts on key variables, including:
    • Traveler responses to ITS alternatives, such as route diversion or mode shift
    • Changes in specific categories of travel, such as trip patterns, transportation modes, or corridor traffic
    • Effects on recurring and non-recurring congestion, safety, energy consumption, noise, vehicle operating costs, emissions, and even agency efficiency
    • Life-cycle costs of an improvement
  • Offers a library of benefit and impact findings observed and estimated for numerous real-world deployments of ITS
  • Develops inventories of your ITS equipment and their locations to identify cost-sharing opportunities
  • Allows examination of the implications of changes in project phasing or geographic scope
  • Provides documentation to speed and simplify the transition into design and implementation
